Previously, Link found the Master Sword in the Sacred Grove, and the dark curse on him was removed and placed in a crystal. He now has a shiny new weapon, and he can change between human and wolf forms whenever he wants. He also learned the fourth Hidden Skill, Helm Splitter, just outside Castle Town. Now, it's time to begin a lot of optional stuff before moving on with the story.

In the Central Square of Castle Town, Link checks out the shop in the southeast (time 1:06). They're so snooty that they won't admit Link in dirty shoes. Fortunately, there is a kid nearby who will polish his shoes for the reasonable price of 10 Rupees. This will not serve much practical purpose, though. The shop gives new definition to the term "price gouging."

Afterwards, Link warps over to Kakariko Village (time 3:55). Checking around town, he learns that Prince Ralis is now up and about. However, neither Prince Ralis nor Ilia seem to be happy.

Once he has checked on everyone, Link heads into Malo Mart (time 13:18). An elderly Goron there is raising funds to repair the bridge leading from east Castle Town to Hyrule Field. Afterwards, he will raise funds to buy the snooty Castle Town shop and reduce the ungodly prices there. Sounds like a winner! Link contributes 500 Rupees to the goal of 1,000 Rupees for the bridge repair fund.

Done in Kakariko Village for now, Link heads out to the Kakariko Gorge area southwest of town (time 16:46).

Across the bridge, he bombs a boulder to open up a cave in the south of the area (time 17:28). This is a dark cave in Kakariko Gorge. Come with a Lantern full of oil, and maybe with some oil in bottles. Link will need to burn down spider webs as he progresses through this area.

In the east, along the southeast path, there is a chest containing a Purple Rupee, worth 50 R (time 20:18).

North of the entrance, along the eastern branch, there is a small chest containing a Red Rupee, worth 20 R (time 21:21). More for the bridge repair fund!

Along the western branch north of the entrance, there is a Yellow Chu (time 21:40). Link can scoop it into his Lantern to fill it up.

In the northeast, Link can find a Poe along the western branch (time 23:08). Defeating it, he obtains Poe's Soul #08. If not for having to be a wolf to kill Poes, he could have gotten this Poe's Soul much earlier.

In the eastern branch in the northeast, after defeating a Skulltula, Link can light a couple of torches to reveal a treasure chest (time 24:00). This chest contains Piece of Heart #23!

After backtracking out of the cave, Link warps to South Faron Woods (time 25:26). He gets a lantern refill from the weirdo northeast of Faron's Spirit Spring. Afterwards, he waits until nightfall. One of the biggest annoyances of this game is that there is nothing like the Sun's Song to control the day-night cycle.

Next time, Link will begin hunting Poes.
