The third generation threadripper processors are not compatibile with X399 boards says a rumor, because of a different pin layout, different architecture and other fundamental changes. This means that trx40 and trx80 threadripper 3 will need an entirely different motheboard - potentially the platform known as shark tooth.

THe Zen 3 supporting SMT-4 rumors will not go away, as yet another report says that SMT 4 will be a feature of the zen 3 CPU architecture from AMD.
