Zilog and Moto - Episode 54: Back to the Future II - Master System
9Do you like the movie Back to the Future II, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd? Well, I certainly hope so, because it's a great movie, and the middle film in a classic trilogy. And if you don't like it, well...I'd say this isn't the game for you, but in reality, this isn't a game for anybody.
Without spoiling things too much, Back to the Future II on the Master System falls into the classic trap of trying to shovel a movie licensed game out while the movie is hot, while not giving much regard as to whether the game is any good, with the mindset being, "Well, people love the movie, so kids and their parents will buy the game regardless!" It was a horrible, greedy attitude that pervaded the pre-internet era, when it was more difficult to know whether a new game was any good or not, without spending money on it.
So, just how bad is it? I'll give you a hint, remember the scene in the movie when Marty gets trapped on the hoverboard over a pool of water? That is in the game...with no explanation of how to NOT fall in. And falling in equals death. Yeah...it's a classic.
