Savage for the Spectrum 48k

Another game by Nick and Dave and probe software again pushing the 48k even further to its limits. Lots of color and huge sprites again and some nice Beeper music added to the game. a shame they don't play during gameplay. Remember these beeper tunes are 1-bit, making them all the more impressive.

The construction of the video will look a bit odd, but then the game is also this way. Split into 3 game loads which you can load at any time. If you had beaten the previous levels you be given a code to give you more lives for the next part.

00:00 We start with the lengthy text intro. I added the intro music over the top to make it more bearable. The actual game does not do this. Notice a bug in the intro screen where the image doesn't decode properly. How did that get by the programmers.

06:44 Level1 follows and I let the title music play out before starting the game. This stage is really hard. Your energy bar is also a time limit so its constantly counting down. Like trantor you dont have time to sit around and line up your shots, you need to keep moving as the next energy refill bottle can seem miles away when enemies are constantly trying to fly into you. A bug at the end of the level provides you with a passcode which is wrong, it should be seven letters and not 8. Shows how much game testing went on in the old days :)

12:48 Level2, Again I let the music play out before starting. Its abit long as you seem to have to kill x amount of enemies before moving on.

21:05 Level3, Again I let the music play out before starting. Nice looking level, but damn is it Hard. Collision detection can be abit off causing annoying deaths. Another notable big which defies logic on how it could have got past testing is the score bar. Constantly flickering and score always resets to zero. This isn't an emu issue, as it does it on my real spectrum too.

The game could have done with an Outro, but all in all it wasn't bad to play even if it does seem to end suddenly. -
