007: Everything or Nothing - Part 2
I never really touched anything after Nightfire as far as Bond is concerned - other than that godawful "remake" of Goldeneye for the PS3. I didn't even know they'd done a 3rd person outing or that they'd gotten an ensemble cast including Willem Dafoe and Shannon Elizabeth for Brosnan's last outing as Bond - yet here we are...
Everything or Nothing is noticeably a product of it's time. The variety of missions and writing contribute to what was an occasionally fun slog - but the mechanics detract and were nowhere near as refined as they could have been. With no checkpoints but shortish levels, then dying due to lock-on or corner cover failing to work is unforgiving and frustrating. The driving missions are super awkward too with controls being ridiculously over sensitive. It takes a while to get used to. It can also be quite bland in places with similar areas - and stealth is nigh on impossible, which is a damn shame because EA could have drawn on what made games like MGS2/Splinter Cell so great (and I'd argue that they hold up today)
It's not a bad game by any stretch, and there is a lot of enjoyment to be had with an appearance from series favourite Jaws, and Judi Dench being Judi Dench - and those "Bond moments" that you can obtain through cleverly interacting with surrounding environments or Q gadgets are a fantastic addition... but 20 years later it doesn't quite hold up like GoldenEye.
