Part of me wishes I was experiencing Heavy Rain for the first time - in fact it was the first game with achievements that I took the time to Platinum. It's easy to see why this ambitious project is considered a landmark game, and an inventive way of telling a branching story with twists and turns. Heavy Rain is essentially an interactive B-movie where you play as 4 leading characters in the hunt for a child that was abducted by the mysterious and diabolical Origami Killer - Ethan Mars, the child's father - grief stricken and empty since the loss of his other son. Norman Jayden, an FBI agent with the worst accent you've ever heard. Madison Paige, a journalist who stumbles across Ethan and is compelled to help. Scott Shelby, a PI who hides skeletons in the closet behind a nce guy exterior.
After Quantic Dream released a tech demo of the engine and some inchorent dramatic rambling from a character model, it was quite easy to see that the finished project would be something special, and when it dropped people were astounded by the graphics, writing and intense QTE action as well as the fact it branched so much. It's not all roses, as some of the faux-accents and occasional poor dialogue presented by the inhabitants of this world could suck you right out of it... and my god are some controls clunky and frustrating. This doesn't stop it from holding up even now, 14 years later... and I will gladly revisit it some day
