It's time to wander about, searching the dark corridors of the area for a clue as to what to do, doing battle with the vicious zombie dogs as I go. I find the "metal monster" that Red spoke of, but still no key to operate it; it must be in the storage area, which is accessed only via the upper tunnel in the cave... but how do I reach it with a busted ladder?

ABOUT THE GAME:

Penumbra: Overture (2007), by Frictional Games, is the first chapter of a survival horror series that preceded the more well-known game Amnesia: The Dark Descent. It features much of the same elements - a dynamic physics engine, gameplay that emphasizes puzzle-solving, and instilling psychological horror based on an inability to fight back against the game's monsters.

The story begins when our character, Philip, receives a mysterious letter from the father he never knew shortly after his mother's funeral. A series of clues leads Philip to an isolated part of Northern Greenland, where he begins searching for answers.
