Thrill and danger are two sides of the same coin. Roller coasters are perfect examples of this analogy. While you're boiling in anticipation to hop into the next ride, remember that the cars can fly off the tracks, the support beams could collapse, or the safety bars may crash. With that in mind, let's delve into the ten deadly roller coaster disasters in the world.
10. Wildcat, Bell's Amusement Park, 1997
If you've ever ridden on a roller coaster, you understand the excitement that builds up as the car slowly climbs to the top of the ride. The calm before the storm makes this location one of the thrilling spots to spend your vacation. Imagine for a second what will happen when the chain pulling the car malfunctions and sends the machine careening backward? While you're still picturing how this would play out, something similar happened on April 20, 1997, at Bell's Amusement Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
On that fateful day, visitors gathered at the Park for a ride because it was one of the most popular rides at the time. As one of the cars reached the top of the highest hill, a safety device meant to keep it from sliding failed. The car slipped 45 feet back down, and the track slammed into another vehicle, thereby ejecting a 14-year-old boy. He died on the spot while six more persons were severely injured. Investigations later revealed that the Park had used an unapproved material for the machines. ss

9. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Disneyland, 2003
Disneyland built the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ride in 1979. The mine-train theme had caves, desert landscapes, and mineshafts. All these became clearer in 2003, when a part of the train derailed, killing a rider and injuring ten others. The train had a small locomotive and five cars that carried 32 people at once. It had just shot up a hill into a tunnel when this historical accident happened. A wheel fell off and jammed one of the axles, causing the back end to kick up and hit the top of the tunnel.
The front car got stuck in the locomotive's undercarriage and killed one man. After the incident, the locomotive sat on the hill and derailed while the remaining part of the car came to rest at 20 to 30 feet away at the bottom. After investigations, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health team blamed park maintenance workers and ride operators for the accident. The company settled the family of the deceased with an undisclosed amount.

8. Fujin Rijin, Expoland 2007
This mishap occurred on Children's day of 2007 in Japan. It spoil the mood and the day as the day turned out to be a mournful one. The incident occurred in Fujin Raijin II ride at Expoland, an amusement park built-in 1970. It was designed for riders to stand throughout the 0.65 miles course as the six-car trains reached 47 miles per hour. Fun seekers had booked and rode on the train earlier that day, but in the afternoon, things changed. The ride had taken off for another round and was halfway into the journey when the second car derailed and tilted dramatically to the left.
One young woman was unlucky as her head was stuck on the railing while the coaster roared down the tracks. It made a terrible scraping sound indicating that something was wrong before it came to a halt. An operator revealed that a broken wheel axle was responsible for the accident. This malfunction is also because the ride wasn't maintained when it should. After the disaster, ticket sales saw a sharp decline, and the company was left with no option than to close in 2009.

7. Wild Wonder, Wonderland Pier, 1999
Ocean City in New Jersey is a popular vacation and relaxation spot that every family looks forward to. You can enjoy the luxury of the beaches and boardwalk. Among the numerous recreational activities available for tourists is Gillian's Wonderland Pier, an amusement park located north of the boardwalk. The festive vibe and the crowd of fun lovers make it easy to forget that this site was the spot for one of the most fatal roller coaster accidents in history.
Wild wonder had just been launched when passengers excitedly boarded it to have a thrilling ride. The drive chain disengaged before it got to the 41-foot crest, and the anti-rollback device malfunctioned. The train tore backward into the turn, and while the cars remained on the tracks, the curve's force ejected a mother and her daughter out. The duo struck the walls and fell 10 feet to the ground.
