Every year, researchers are eager to break the news of a discovery. Some of the information is heart aching and sometimes indescribable. Get ready to hear some spooky revelations you may not be too comfortable with. Without further ado, we begin with number 10...
10. The microbes are gaining on us
Vaccines and antibiotics have been saving lives since the discovery of modern medicine. Without them, most of us would have suffered childhood polio, smallpox, measles, or even die. Some microbes are evolving faster than we can find ways to fight them. For instance, the influenza virus mutates so quickly that most vaccinations are ineffective on them. Most hospitals are infested with an antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus bacteria that can transform a small cut on the hand into a life-threatening infection.
Many people have had their hands or legs amputated for this reason, and the doctors are confused about the situation. Worst still, new diseases keep jumping from animals to humans. For instance, Ebola came from apes; hantavirus came from rodents, swine flu from swine, bird flu from birds, and SARS from masked palm civets. The coronavirus is reported to have come from animals, too, but there's been no conclusive evidence to support the claim. Most of these bacteria are getting more resistant to drugs meaning that more people could die of infections in the coming years.

9. Things that taste good are bad for you
Do things that taste good pose any health risk to you? Well, I guess you've heard about this assertion numerous times but didn't take it seriously because you think it's one of those statements tactically designed to distract you from your favorite dish. Some years ago, the Framingham heart study enrolled over 5000 residents of the area to participate in a long-term study of the risk factors of heart disease. The task is to last many years to ensure accuracy. In fact, the current enrollees are the grandchildren of the first ones.
The studies carried out in the sample population showed that one's risk of stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and some kinds of cancer increases in a dose-dependent manner when exposed to delicious food. Triple-fudge brownies, salty French fries, steak, whipped cream, and a host of others are silent killers. Don't get me wrong, some delicious foods are healthy too, but the human taste buds are more geared towards the unhealthy ones. And again, our cravings put us into trouble because we crave things we should have no business eating most of the time.

8. Your mind is not yours
Have you ever boasted to someone that you had a mind of your own or you are a man of your words? You may need to retract that statement after seeing this because you may be wrong. Freud postulated that a lot of our behaviors and beliefs are driven by factors we are unaware of. While this may seem a bit too extra, it is true. Sunny days make people more productive and excited, while rainy days do the opposite. In a taste test, the chances are that you'll prefer the first sample you taste, even if you were presented with better or identical ones.
The more often you're around a person or object, the more you develop a love for it. Sometimes, a person's smell is all we need to decide if we want to date them or not. We make incorrect generalizations and misinterpret facts to support our preconceived notions. What we know as memories are stories we tell ourselves whenever we try to recount an event. Have you noticed that sometimes, your memories are distorted? You tend to mix up people, dates, and other details while recalling the past. Our mind is not truly ours, indeed.

7. Human sacrifice cuts across all cultures
Ritual killings were a common denominator even in the most civilized countries today. Forget about the sugar coating, they did happen, and history isn't blurred with the details. Say you're about to die, and you're packing some supplies to aid life in the afterlife; what do you go with? Some flowers, money, loved ones, or even servants to continue their job. If you were an Egyptian Pharaoh, you'd probably have your servants slaughtered and buried next to your tomb. This culture also extends to China, where servants were sacrificed to eternal companions. In India, too, some sects required human sacrifices.
