The tips listed are by no way the "best" tips, but rather 10 thoroughly explained tips that hopefully will help you survive.

Alternative shredding mechanic:
On larger animals, select to harvest ALL the meat. Then scroll back down to the lowest. The game will now select scraps based on the excess, allowing you to harvest smaller chunks. For example, if you killed a deer that weighs 9.2 kg:
Select to harvest all of it, then deselect down. It will reduce the harvesting by 0.5 kg, meaning it eventually goes down to 0.2 kg. You can now harvest 0.2kg bits. Doing this way will also level up the carcass harvesting skill faster.

Editing and content disclaimers:
- The map showing wolves and bears in Mystery Lake is not exhaustive, but just an illustration of where they could spawn. They will not be in all those locations in one run, and there are a few other places wolves can spawn or roam, sometimes with variation within an area. Moose spawns are not marked, but there are three (Trappers Cabin, the cabin near Unnamed Pond, and river by the Dam)
- The path from Timberwolf Mountain to Desolation Point is just one suggested route. Many streamers prefer instead to go via Mystery Lake and to Forlorn Muskeg. It is just one suggestion: the important thing is to keep moving and head for a forge once you find a hammer - it doesn't have to be the one in Desolation Point.
- You do not need to go for the starvation tactic. Many experienced players, including myself, do not normally use it: we go for well fed right away. But for players starting out on interloper, I recommend it.
- To my knowledge, no one has ever counted all the cat tails in the world. If I had to guess, its between 1500-2000 of them. EDIT: kimiota has reportedly done it and its around 1600
- The reason why the Coastal Highway path curves at the end is because you should also check the fishing hut there... it has a chance of a hammer spawn. Beware of wolves, though.
- Affliction health loss numbers are rounded, both up and down. During my testing, the average condition loss during Risk of Hypothermia was 21,75% (TLD wiki reports it to be 18%)
- The Bleak Inlet bedroll is the only guaranteed, fixed spawn. This does not mean that other bedrolls will NOT spawn - they are determined by loot tables and are found in certain areas around the world.
- It is possible to climb down the Ravine without a rope, according to kimiota and GunTech1. However, the route needed to do this is such a detour that it is not worth it. Easier to get a rope.
- In addition to the items I recommend carrying, you might want to also carry 12 cat tails stalks. Just in case you need to re-enter starvation mode, it will provide food for two days.
