Among cultures and tribes across the universe, mountains are revered. The reverence doesn’t happen just because of the mountains' chin-raising heights or massive width, but mostly for the mysteries surrounding them. Local tribes who are quite more knowledgeable about hidden mysteries of these mountains that may never be found on the internet worship them for this aura of fear surrounding them. While some of these mysteries create mild fear, others arouse spine-chilling horrors. Now sit back and watch as we unveil the top ten mysterious events that took place on mountains worldwide.
10. The Ural Mountains
The Ural Mountains stand in strength and power as a natural boundary between Europe and Asia. These mountains are known for the wealth they give. Mention minerals like coal, iron, silver, gold, and platinum. Massive, right?!
But do these natural cheerful givers take anything in return? Do they operate by the human standard of giving and taking?
Well, let this scenario answer the question: some 61 years back, there was a student, Igor Dyatlov, an experienced, professional hiker. As the curious type, Dyatlov and nine other friends of his decided to conquer the Urals, but the mountains fought back. When ten of the students did not return at the appropriate time, a rescue team went to remind them to come home. Alas, their bodies were found atop the mountain, slashed into halves and barefooted. One of them has his eyeballs plucked out. Several explanations tendered to clarify this mystery proved abortive.

9. The Ben Macdhui Mystery
This second-in-command in Scottish heights, boasts of being 1309 meters tall. Apart from wearing snow in a unique fashion and its height that makes other mountains around it green with envy, from the past events, there are some unresolved mysteries about this mountain. Some of the climbers are still terrified by their experiences on this mountain and they have sworn never to climb it again.
One of the mysterious events on the mountain is the projection of someone’s shadow in mist right in front of them. This earns the mountain the nickname “The Grey Man of Ben Macdhui.” While this is terrifying, there hasn’t been a real satisfactory explanation that demystifies the event.
But seeing your shadow stand in front of you in the mist is even the least scary thing on this mountain. What about the several creepy footsteps hurrying behind you? And when you stare back with terror etched all over your face, there’s actually nothing coming. This has caused trauma on many of the previous climbers. And they swore never to try it again.

8. Untersberg, the Cursed Mountain
Untersberg hasn’t earned the name ‘Cursed Mountain’ as mere fancy. It worked for it. It earned it from its deeds. Stopping at the height of 1853 meters, Untersberg oversees Salzburg with snow and cloud on its peak, like a gentle old man. Yet it’s an enigma, a bulk of mystery.
Unsterberg has been home to climbers, hikers and tourists for centuries. While many are lucky to come back home unscathed, a number of those who have had their share of the mountain’s eerie deeds will never forget. Some of the mountaineers have narrated how they suddenly became unconscious on the mountain and woke up in a place entirely different from where they had previously been. Some even found themselves in a very distant place where it was impossible to arrive in just a few minutes of getting there.
If ever you want to play a game of time-travelling, this mountain is for you. But can you survive it?
Note this, there is a tale of three hikers who climbed the mountain as a group, only to disappear abruptly. And by the time their family would hear from them, it was after three months of leaving home, and they were already on the Red Sea with no idea how they got there or what time it took to get there.

7. Mount Nyangani and the Creatures it Hosts
When Thomas Gaisford got the university award that sponsored his trip to Zimbabwe in 2014, he didn’t know that he would be engulfed in dark mystery. He was at the peak of Mount Nyangani, where he had dared to spend the night.
At predawn, strange fog hung above and surrounded him. Afterwards, it started raining. Both wet and scared, Gaisford shook in the midst of darkness and fog where he stood. Worse of it, he saw some animals staring at him. But as soon as the trio of darkness, rain and fog disappeared, the animals disappeared too.
