Электроника ВЛ-100 (Elektronika VL-100): Part 3
Some further tinkering on this Soviet-era television, built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Comrade Lenin's birth.
Repaired the cracks on the power supply unit and found the missing corner piece of one of the circuit boards (thanks to @MrWaalkman).
Often the price would be stamped on the item ... in this case I *think* the price was ₽160 in the 1980s ... BUT ... the currency conversions I check reckon this was only US$2.13 ... ?! So maybe (and please correct me in the comments!) the stamped price was not relevant towards the end of the Union?
Anyway ... the circuit boards open up nicely to allow easy ... and relatively safe ... access to all the parts. Really quite nicely made.
I attached a 2.1mm DC socket so I could power it from my bench supply ... at 12VDC it was using between 500mA and 800mA ... not that it was working ... the flyback transformer continues to make its screeching sound (thanks to @preferredimage &@pdaguytom). Not sure what it's issue is ... some sort of internal arcing? Not sure how I would fix it ... but I started removing the electrolytic capacitors around it to get a better look.
Everything looks okay, and I don't think it's a faulty capacitor.
