It’s the Training Dummy. Unfortunately, the training dummy isn’t playable, and is instead a total, glitched-filled mess. She can’t attack, and if you try to move her she sort of just falls infinitely, causing the game to glitch out and spasm even more. Despite this however, the game is still able to function despite this going on, which is just a testament to how good programming as gotten at this point in time. Ah, we’ve come a long way since the early 90s.
And that’s it for the Dead or Alive series. Goddamn. Not dramatically long, but it certainly has some interesting elements to it. Crazy to think that another major series is done. DOA will never be my favourite franchise, but on the whole, I’ve definitely come to respect it over time, particularly with Last Round. I still think Koei Tecmo are a scummy company on the whole, and I don’t think I’ll ever quite love DOA, but I can at least admire it for its efforts and successes now. It’s a series which has stuck it out through thick and thin, gotten considerably better over time and can’t be denied that it’s now a pretty good series on the whole. It took a damn long time, but I’d say it finally found its footing, and certainly its niche.
Up next, I’ll be taking a short break, but then it’s on to a couple of obscure Naomi fighting games.
