#1134 Mortal Kombat 9 (Steam) DLC Characters (1/4): Skarlet playthrough.
A playthrough of the DLC character Skarlet in the Steam port of Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat 9/MK9.
If you’re buying MK9 nowadays then you’re probably buying the Komplete addition, which calls into question whether these characters should even be covered considering they’re effectively an innate part of the game by this point. But, eh, fuck it; they’re interesting and I feel like covering them.
Like Cyber Sub-Zero, Skarlet here is another fanservice character of sorts, though in the best possible way. Skarlet was rumoured to exist in the series since MK2, where she was basically the female equivalent of the Ermac rumour, and was proposed to be a hidden red female ninja. Although Ermac was legitimised by UMK3, Skarlet was allowed to lounge in obscurity as a rumour for nearly 20 years. Why? Who knows. Maybe they thought a red female ninja was just too close to a Godfrey Ho film or some such.
So how does Skarlet play? Well, in general, I think she’s great. She has a few decent projectile attacks, but most of her moveset revolves around launching attacks, and she can do some serious damage if you’re able to do her juggle attacks consistently. She also has this one combo where she looks like she’s dabbing at the end of it, which made me laugh, because my sense of humour is that cheap. The most interesting kombo of hers is her “Flesh and Blood” attack, which hits numerous times with ease for a whopping 19% damage, which is a fair amount for such a standard combo, and can even be comboed into from a juggle.
On the whole, quite liked Skarlet.
Next up, the fan favourite from Deadly Alliance.
