0If the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 makes you think of the 2014-era GeForce GTX 970, you’re not alone. Allowing users to experience 1080p gaming at max settings and high frame rates while keeping the price down, the GTX 970 offered legendary performance on games like the Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight, both of which are GPU-intensive even now. And, the 3070 has shown the same promise.
It’s not a perfect comparison, of course. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 was priced at a much more reasonable $329 (about £250, AU$460), while the RTX 3070 will cost you $499 (£469, AU$809). That isn’t exactly cheap, but considering how much the last generation of Turing cards went for though, at least Nvidia didn’t bake in another price hike.
Much like what the GTX 970 did with 1080p gaming, however, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 brings 4K gaming to the masses. Its performance almost rivals that of the RTX 2080 Ti at 4K, without setting you back $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899), which was how much that flagship cost when it came out. So, thanks to the RTX 3070, booting up something like the newly-released Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K will no longer cost you thousands of dollars.
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 may not offer the same staggering performance as the GeForce RTX 3080 or the RTX 3090, but with its approachable price and high performance, it's the de facto graphics card for most people.
