12 Upcoming PC Hidden Gems You Must Watch Out For
The Rock Paper Shotgun video department recently visited EGX 2018, where we looked for hidden gems for PC that had slipped below our radars. We discovered a world of sticky cats, terrifying tube trains, platforming trombones and two-headed dogs. These are our top picks of upcoming PC games that you must watch out for.
Our PC preview of EGX covers everything from musical platformers like Kine to Wavy The Rocket, where you steer a rocket - yes - along a sine curve. We played Sticky Cats, where sticky cats do battle, and also tried to run a post office in Willowbrooke Post. If you hate cats you could try Phogs instead (the two-headed dog puzzler) and if you hate post, well that’s just too niche a complaint to deal with in this upcoming PC games preview.
We also take a trip into horror territory in Those Who Remain, a shadowy thriller that channels some of the spirit of Alan Wake - and he has plenty of spirits to channel. If you prefer horror with a more domestic flavour, Alice recommends Meridian Line, a spooky trip into the London Underground system. Or you could go searching for the Wendigo with nothing more than a camera, as seen in The Snap Hunt. That one reminds us a bit of Firewatch, which also feels like one of the inspirations for The Bradwell Conspiracy, a sci-fi tinged story set in a Stonehenge museum.
If you’re sick of playing PC games and would rather take them apart, Matthew recommends Obviously Inappropriate Content, where you play the role of a game censor. More constructive types will want to keep an eye out for Flotsam, where you build a Waterworld-like city on the sea. And if all of the above sound too stressful for your PC gaming taste, you can wait for Kinoko instead, which is a charming exploration game where you defrost snow and plant seeds. It’s delightful.
These were just a few of the amazing upcoming PC games we saw and played at EGX 2018. We’d love to hear your recommendations, too. If you want to keep on top of all the upcoming PC games, just subscribe to Rock Paper Shotgun - we have you covered.
