Sloth Boss, Giant Maps And The Good And Bad Bits From 2 Hours With Darksiders 3
Darksiders 3 - or Darksiders III if you dig your roman numerals - is a big change for the series, with new hero Fury chasing Sloth, Envy and the other seven deadly sins through a vast Metroid-like map. In our new Darksiders 3 PC preview we pick the good and bad bits.
As you’ll see in our Darksiders 3 impressions, this is quite the departure for the series: if the earlier games were about brute force in a world inspired by Zelda, Fury is about carefully picking at enemies in a world that owes a debt to Metroid. It’s set in one vast super dungeon, where every route connects in a logical way and you’ll find surprise shortcuts around every corner. Even better, you can tackle the boss fights in any order you want, letting you go after Sloth, Envy and friends in the order you see fit: depending on what powers you collect in what order, this could have a very different impact on how fights play out.
This feature is based on two hours with the new metro-based hive level - there are giant bugs lining the train tracks, ruled over by the giant insect king Sloth. Our new Darksiders III gameplay shows off the new area and weighs up Fury’s new combat style and how well the game has borrowed from the Metroid rulebook. It’s a surprisingly difficult game, definitely much sharper than the brawling of Darksiders and its sequel - we’re not playing as Death anymore, but Fury is still going to die a whole lot. Hopefully this Darksiders 3 preview will offer guidance through this deadly new world.
If you have any questions about the game, from Fury’s new Force Hollow or Flame Hollow powers, to how exploration works in the new map, to the Dark Souls like currency system, please do pop them in the comments and we’ll try and dredge up some answers. Darksiders 3 release date is 27 November, so there is a bit of time to polish up some of those rough edges. As always, we suggest waiting for our full review - there are still plenty fo questions about how Darksiders 3’s world map is going to hold up. It’s an ambitious change for the series and we love the sound of it, we just need a bit more convincing from the gameplay itself.
