1416: TrackMania Nations Forever PC \\ Options, gameplay, user track ports of TrackMania Turbo
Whoa, this game rules. = ooo It's the FREE game TrackMania Nations Forever! = D
It's also on Steam, which was the first version I messed with; now I'm using the version downloaded directly from the official site:

Sheesh I had the volume setting out of whack--really loud game volume. Dargh.
Feels quite refreshing to have a driving game whose only controls are steering, gas, and brake. : D Later TM games add boost meters or track sections that boost you, or icy skiddy drifty sections--none of that stuff in Nations, just pure drivin'!
Here are those map packs for Nations that appear (here's the DS A1 track on DS, for instance--looks just like the downloadable user-ported Nations version I played in this episode! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvO2kkXFJyo ) to port in tracks from TrackMania Turbo and TrackMania Turbo DS:

To my surprise, the DS TrackMania Turbo came out in 2010. The game called TrackMania Turbo for later platforms came out in 2016 and is an entirely different game! (TrackMania 2 came out between the two. ^ _^)
TrackMania Nations came out in 2006; TM's creators, French dev studio Nadeo, spent years continuing to update the game & engine, which probably explains why it's so surprisingly sharp looking even now, and has such in-depth features! Wikipedia said maybe circa 2007 that "Nadeo has stated that because they want the game to have a long lifespan, they are working on the engine and user interface rather than adding new content." Nadeo were bought by Ubisoft in 2009; the game's last update came out in 2010.
That one user track I found playable, ESL-Hockolicious by Hock
https://tmnf.exchange/trackshow/414041
(by the way on that site you can click a button to play the map directly from the page--pretty slick!)
seems to be a TM legend! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NbcEcO5oyg
Hm I should DL Hock's other tracks. ... Ah I see, once you create a profile and fave his profile on the site, it's easy to access all his tracks.
The one difference I've found between the direct official site download and the Steam version of Nations is where on your PC they look for downloaded tracks; the direct download version looks in
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\TMForever\Tracks
while the Steam version looks in
C:\Users\[username]\Documents\TrackMania\Tracks
