CLOSE UP VIEW OF THE INSIDE OF THE MYSTERIOUS COMMODORE 64 DISK DRIVE!!!
After a week on a movie set, and no, I have not tidied up yet, but it is time to look inside this strangely modified 1541 disk drive. Some say it is part of a 21 second copy program, and indeed, it could be...it is time to look into this drive, and see what is what...
I have enough disk drives...I have enough disk drives...I know, but tonight, a cold wet autumn night leading into winter, wrapped in a bag from the Mandarin, a 1541 did appear...and it has a strange cable emerging from the back at the power switch, and on this ribbon cable is an edge connector, somewhat damaged, that looks like it would go on the user port of a 64, and then there is another branch that has a socket that would appear to go into the socket of a chip and have the chip rest in this other receptacle...or so it would seem...I am told the drive powers up in a manner that would indicate that it looks like it might be functional, but what is all this extra stuff and what lurks within the drive? Those are just some of the probing questions!
