아랑전설 시리즈의 두 번째 작품. 1992년 12월 10일 첫 가동되었다
격투게임적인 면에선 미완성이었던 1편을 살짝 다듬은 작품. 덕분에 "아랑전설 1의 완성판"이라는 호평을 들으면서 흥행에 크게 성공하였고 후속작인 아랑전설 스페셜과 같이 1993년 대전액션게임 최고의 화제작이 되었다.
초대 아랑전설의 주인공 3인방에서 5명이 추가되어 선택 가능한 캐릭터가 8명으로 늘어났고 모든 캐릭터에게 일발역전을 가능하게 해주는 초필살기가 하나씩 생겨났다. 대전액션게임 사상 굴지의 섹스어필 및 인기여캐 시라누이 마이, 대전액션게임 최초의 한국인 김갑환, 전작 중간 보스였던 빌리 칸, 나머지 삼투사의 일원 액슬 호크, 로렌스 블러드, 최종 보스 볼프강 크라우저가 등장한다.
기스가 죽은 후에 사우스 타운의 권력을 노리고 쳐들어온 볼프강 크라우저[1]가 보스. 한국인 캐릭터 김갑환은 장풍이 없었지만 기술들이 꽤 좋아서, 더군다나 "한국인"이라는 점에 맞물려서 많은 사랑을 받았다.
사우스 타운만을 무대로 했던 1편과는 달리 스트리트 파이터 2처럼 전세계를 무대로 삼았다. 그러다 보니 미국인인 앤디 보가드의 스테이지가 뜬금없이 이탈리아의 베네치아가 되는 등 설정상 이해하기 힘든 부분들도 있었다.[2]
일부 캐릭터는 스테이지 국가와 실제 국적이 일치하지 않기도 하다. 예를 들어 앤디 보가드는 이탈리아 스테이지에 등장하지만 실제로는 미국인이라던가, 죠 히가시는 태국 스테이지에 등장하지만 실제로는 일본인이라던가...[3]
2편의 특징으로는 연속기의 개념이 전혀 존재하지 않는다는 것과 가드 데미지가 살인적이라는 점을 들 수 있다. 완전히 단타 위주의 기술로 러시, 압박을 걸며 가드를 유도해 말려죽이는 패턴 위주라는 독특한 게임성을 가지고 있으며 반대급부로 전캐릭터에게 자력 라인이동(A+B)과 날리기 공격(C+D), 회피 공격(방어중에→+A)를 부여한 독특한 형태였다.
그러나 커맨드 문제 때문에 회피공격을 제때 사용하기가 힘들다보니 빈틈이 적은 기술을 계속해서 사용하여 상대를 몰아붙이는 연계기가 존재하는 캐릭터들이 매우 강했다. 좋은 예가 그 유명한 앤디의 참영권 - 앉아 강발 하메. 이 때문에 CPU의 난이도도 어려운 편에 속하며, 결국은 밸런스도 전작과 마찬가지로 좋지 않다.
SNK가 국내 회사인 빅콤과 손을 잡아 개발한 어떤 면에서보면 한일합작인 게임이다. 한국 유통사이기도 하던 빅콤의 김갑환 사장의 이름을 딴 캐릭터가 처음부터 등장하는 것도 이런 이유인데, 한일합작이라고 했지만 빅콤은 캐릭터들의 배경 그래픽, 김갑환 캐릭터 디자인, 숭례문을 비롯한 한국팀 배경 그래픽을 만들었다고 한다. 대전 엑스포에 전시하기 위해서 합작했다는 얘기도 있다. 이 때 빅콤이 노하우를 얻어 개발한 게임이 왕중왕. 물론 그 결과는...
캐릭터의 목소리는 전문 성우가 아닌 연극 배우를 기용하였는데, 당시 관서지역을 중심으로 크게 인기를 끌고 있던 극단 신칸센의 단원들이 대부분이었다. 이는 아랑전설 스페셜까지 이어졌고 아랑전설 3부터는 대다수를 전문 성우로 교체했다. 여담으로, 지금은 중견 조연 배우가 된 나마세 카츠히사가 게임 캐릭터 성우로써 참가한 유일한 작품이다. 빌리 칸, 죠 히가시 등의 보이스를 맡았다.

Fatal Fury 2 (餓狼伝説2 新たなる闘い, Garō Densetsu Tsū Aratanaru Tatakai, "Legend of the Hungry Wolf 2: The New Battle") is a 1992 fighting game released by SNK for the Neo Geo arcade and home platforms. It is the sequel to Fatal Fury: King of Fighters and the second game in the Fatal Fury series.
Plot
After Geese Howard's death in the original Fatal Fury, a mysterious nobleman becomes the sponsor of the new "King of Fighters" tournament. This time, the tournament is held worldwide with fighters around the globe competing. As the single player mode progresses, the mysterious challenger begins defeating the participants from the previous Fatal Fury game (Michael Max, Hwa Jai, Duck King, Tung Fu Rue and Richard Meyer), searching for the man responsible for defeating Geese.
Gameplay
Fatal Fury 2 was the second game in SNK's 100-Mega Shock series, offering improved graphics and gameplay over the original Fatal Fury. The play controls were modified, this time making full use of the Neo-Geo's four button configuration, by including four attack buttons (two Punch buttons and two Kick buttons). The game expands on the two-lane plane system by giving the player the ability to knock their opponent to the other lane. Additionally some stages have hazards like electrified wires or a stampede of bulls. In addition, each character now has a "desperation attack" which can only be performed when their life meter is low and flashing red.
Characters
The new characters added to the roster are:
◾Mai Shiranui, the heiress of Shiranui clan of ninjas and Hanzo Shiranui's granddaughter. She met Andy Bogard during his training with her grandfather, and falls in love with him;
◾Big Bear, the babyface persona of Raiden, after his defeat for Geese Howard;
◾Kim Kaphwan, a young Tae Kwon Do master, strives for excellence and righteousness in everything he does, be it his fighting or personal life, besides having an inherent and strong sense of justice;
◾Cheng Sinzan, an wealthy bussinessman, who trained along with Jeff Bogard and Geese, and a former student of Tung Fu Rue;
◾Jubei Yamada, a Judo master who, in the past, was admired and respected by those who saw his fights due to his young spirit and burning will. He also trained Mai Shiranui at the request of her grandfather and his personal friend, Hanzo;
◾Axel Hawk, a former heavy weight boxing champion and one of Krauser's three defenders;
◾Laurence Blood, a former bullfighter easily capable of gracefully dodging the charges of bulls and killing them with one stroke of his sword. Due to his family having strong ties to Krauser, he is his head of security and one of his three defenders (the last is Billy Kane);
◾Wolfgang Krauser, a crimelord of darkness and one of the organizers of the King of Fighters tournament, is owner of the Stroheim castle and Geese's half-brother.
