This computer uses the IBM Power PC architecture and was once a ~$2000 PowerMac G5 dual-CPU workstation, but was found on the roadside and brought to us for restoration and repair.

This is an IBM Power PC dual-socket, dual-CPU system built by Apple as part of the PowerMac G5 family, circa 2004-2005. It was once a high-end workstation, but was sadly discarded incorrectly and alongside the woods near a road. Considering how much raw aluminum is in the chassis alone, and how many dangerous chemicals are in PCBs, this could have been taken to a computer or e-waste recycler instead, who would have been able to melt down the metals and reuse them, and then properly contain the PCBs so that they don't bleed chemicals into the environment. Daniel Toben, our guest today, picked up the system during his regular cleanup route, then brought it to us for restoration.

We are matching up to $1000 total in viewer donations to The Earth Stewards made via this link (https://geni.us/gn-clean). The Earth Stewards is a local (to us) roadside and forest cleanup organization. The organization is entirely volunteer-driven and we have been supporting them behind-the-scenes for a few years now; funding in its entirety goes toward trash bags, recycling fees (when charged), gloves and sanitary items for the crew, . Their goal is to reduce pollution and remove waste from the environment, including disposing of waste properly. This means bringing metals to recyclers to get melted down, trash to more appropriate waste management sites, and sometimes even returning lost pets and items to owners.
