The Motor Vessel Kalakala was a ferry that operated on Puget Sound from 1935 until retirement in 1967, after which she was sold to a seafood processing company and used as factory processing ship in Kodiak, Alaska. Peter Bevis discovered the ship and towed it back to Seattle in 1998. The vessel was a source of controversy, the owners were unable to raise sufficient funds to refurbish the vessel or keep her moored. In 2011 the Coast Guard declared the ship a hazard to navigation and the ship was scrapped in 2015. Only a few pieces such as windows, the pilot house, and the rudder were saved and sold as souvenirs.
