Powering the X1 is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel drive returns an impressive 32 miles per gallon on the highway. Something to also keep in mind is that all-wheel drive is available, and it does 0 to 60 miles per hour in a very quick 6.3 seconds.
Packages and Options
Anytime you buy from a luxury brand like BMW, you get options, and the X1 offers some really good ones. For example, the M Sport package gives you paddle shifters and sport seats. The Luxury package comes with wood trim and other fine touches. Then there is the Premium package, which gives you a panoramic sunroof, keyless ignition and even a hands-free power liftgate. This is just a small taste of what the X1 offers; there's a lot more.
Appealing Design
The X1 features just as much attention to detail on the exterior as it does inside. It all starts up front with LED's with cornering lights and a twin kidney grille. Moving on, the X1 has beautiful body lines and standard 18-inch alloys. You do get a choice of really sporty 19's or 18's when you opt for the M Sport package.
Versatile
This BMW isn't just luxurious; the X1 is as functional and versatile as any compact crossover, luxury or not. Fold down the rear seats and there is an ample 58.7 cu ft. That number is good enough for best-in-class. Also best-in-class is the rear headroom, coming in at 39.4 cu ft. The rear seats even have the option to recline and slide to find the best comfort.
BMW Performance
Like the entire BMW lineup, the X1 makes driving exciting. Keep in mind this is a compact SUV, not a sport sedan. That said, though, the X1 is way more fun than other compact SUV's, particularly when it comes to handling turns and taking corners. An added bonus to the fun drive is how smooth the 8-speed automatic transmission is, especially for a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder.
