Impressive Design
Maybe you've seen it and maybe you haven't, but we're really impressed with the redesign Honda gave the CR-V. Up front are standard LED running lights, and the newer front fascia shows more aggression than previous years. Standard 17-inch alloys will guide you along, and the finish on the rear is where most of the redesign really comes into its own. Overall, the CR-V now has eye-popping style. The Touring trim level even has dual chrome exhaust tips and roof rails.
Interior Space
The CR-V is slotted between the smaller HR-V and the larger Pilot. In the back seat, we were pleased with the ample space. Six-footers won't have a problem, as the CR-V offers plenty of headroom and legroom. The EX-L trim level has a leather interior and dual-zone climate control, which will keep everyone on board happy. Keep in mind the wheelbase is about 1.5 inches longer than the previous CR-V, which gives it more interior space, particularly in the back. Also, the top-of-the-line Touring trim level has ambient interior lighting, which really makes for a luxurious feel.
Engine Choices
Honda offers two reliable engine choices for the CR-V. When you go for the base LX trim level, you'll receive a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with 184 horsepower. Once you go beyond the base trim level, you move up to a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 190 hp. The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine is quicker than the 2.4, and bit more advanced and efficient.
Features
Coming standard on the base trim level is Bluetooth, an electronic parking brake and a 5-in screen. However, if you choose to go up one trim level from the base to the EX, it has all sorts of cool stuff. First of all, the screen is upgraded to a 7-in touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You also get heated front seats, a sunroof and an advanced bundled safety package called Honda Sensing, which includes adaptive cruise control.
Turbocharged All-Wheel Drive
An added bonus is that there is available all-wheel drive on all CR-V trim levels. The turbocharged 1.5-liter AWD returns an impressive 33 miles per gallon on the highway, whereas that front-wheel drive engine returns only one mile per gallon more at 34 mpg on the highway. There also is a one mpg difference in the base 2.4-liter engine, returning 31 mpg hwy with AWD and 32 mpg with FWD. Those are great numbers all around, but they certainly favor a strong consideration for upgrading to AWD.
