2018 Honda Odyssey | Real World Review | Autotrader
If you're shopping for a family hauler, you'll find there are only a few automakers that have mastered the minivan, blending style, comfort and functionality. The 2018 Honda Odyssey does just that.
With a refreshed look, more power and lots of clever features, we're betting this Odyssey will remain a bestseller. And here's why...
First, you have six trim levels to choose from, at varying price points. And all models come with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that delivers a decent 22 miles per gallon in combined driving. If you truly enjoy driving, you'll like how the Odyssey handles. It corners well, and shifting is smooth, with plenty of low-end power. The Odyssey is also pretty quiet, even at high speeds, which means less road noise to keep your backseat passengers calm and happy.
While the Odyssey's interior isn't exactly over-the-top luxurious, it's very comfortable. Plus, in upper trim levels, you'll find quite a few parent-placing gadgets like Cabin Watch, which helps you keep tabs on the littles, even in the dark, thanks to an infrared camera. There's also Cabin Talk, which interrupts the music or video at the touch of a button and allows you to say your piece to the ones in the back.
The kids will appreciate the available rear entertainment setup with Blu-ray and a 10.2-inch screen featuring apps like How Much Further, iHeart Radio and Spotify.
And no more shifting baby seats and boosters around ... the Magic Slide second row offers a lot of flexibility. You can remove the center seat and slide the outboard seats together. They also tilt up, so it's easy for kids to load into the third row without Mom or Dad's help. We especially love that most kids can move these seats around on their own, so it's easy to do that juicebox handoff without a dislocated shoulder.
There's even an available hands-free lift gate with adjustable height. And thanks to the Odyssey's deep cargo well, there's plenty of room for all your stuff. However, the Honda Odyssey doesn't have second-row fold-flat seats like the Chrysler Pacifica does.
As if it wasn't already family-friendly enough, there's Honda's on-board vacuum, which for some parents will come in handy on almost an hourly basis.
Techies will also appreciate all the Odyssey has to offer. There's Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as several USB charging ports and a wireless charging mat. There's also a lot you can do with your smartphone, like start the engine, turn on the A/C to cool off the interior, or control the rear entertainment system.
As for safety, the Odyssey offers the standard fare, plus a multi-angle back-up camera and, as you move up in price, several impressive tech features.
Plus, you can feel good the new Odyssey was built and designed here in the USA. You have to love that.
All in all, if you're looking for a safe, confortable minivan that's totally teched-out, the 2018 Honda Odyssey may be your next car.
