2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 | How fast is the new Ford Mustang Mach 1?
As we’ve previously reported, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a truly global product, unlike the vehicle it replaced, the Shelby GT350. Mach 1 deliveries began in the U.S. back in February, following a few minor styling tweaks, and now, European 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 deliveries are underway as well.
“There’s a reason Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car, but the Mach 1 is going to elevate Mustang to another level in the hearts of performance car fans on this side of the Atlantic,” said Matthias Tonn, Mustang Mach 1 chief program engineer for Europe. “Road or track, this is the most capable Mustang ever to reach Europe and is more than worthy of carrying the legendary Mach 1 badge.”
The European 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is mechanically identical to its North American counterpart, which means that it’s powered by an upgraded version of Ford’s 5.0L Coyote V8 that produces 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. The Mach 1 is the first production Mustang in Europe available with Tremec’s six-speed manual transmission, featuring rev-matching technology and an upgraded oil-cooler system. Customers can also opt for Ford’s 10-speed automatic gearbox with an upgraded oil-cooler and recalibrated software.
Ford also says that the European 2021 Mustang Mach 1 is “the fastest Mustang around a track ever to be sold in Europe,” and features “the most precise steering of any Mustang in Europe” thanks to retuned electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) software. Meanwhile, an upgraded suspension consists of numerous goodies including specially-calibrated MagneRide 2 dampers, stiffer springs, and beefier anti-roll bars.
On the outside, the Mach 1 hearkens back to its predecessors with hood and side stripes, unique wheel designs, and eight available color options, including Fighter Jet Gray. “A true Mustang Mach 1 needs to look fast even standing still,” Tonn said. “The functional aerodynamics and exclusive race-inspired features will leave performance car fans in no doubt that this Mustang means business – even before it hits the track.”
