2021 Porsche Boxster 25 Years Edition Compared To Concept Car
The world was changed a quarter-century ago. To see how far the mid-engined masterpiece has come, lets see the 2021 Porsche Boxster 25 Years Edition compared to the concept car. A trifecta of Porsche Design stylists highlight the best features of their new limited edition car. Their predecessors shocked the world in 1993 with the first Porsche Boxster for sale, and each generation has added performance and luxury.
Porsche’s groundbreaking Boxster sports car has just turned 25 years old and to mark the occasion, the automaker has released a special edition model with numerous throwbacks to Boxster models throughout the ages.

When the Boxster was first unveiled in 1997, it was an instant hit, quickly becoming the brand’s best selling model only bested by the Cayenne upon its introduction a few years later. The sales success was largely due to the sub-$40,000 price tag, but also the Boxster’s good looks, and not to mention its performance.

Well, 25 years went by and the Boxster is no longer the best selling vehicle in the stable — those honours now go to Porsche’s massive SUV lineup — and it’s now part of the “718” lineup. However, when it comes to performance, it’s still a heavy hitter.
The Boxster 25 Years, as it’s officially known, has numerous throwbacks to the original Boxster prototype shown at the 1993 Detroit auto show, including 20-inch five-spoke gold wheels and red interior. It’s even available in the same silver metallic paint, although black and white are also available. The vehicle also features special badging, and all vehicles are numbered 0000/1250.

Based on the 718 Boxster GTS 4.0, the special edition model utilizes the normally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six, putting out 394 horsepower and connected to either a six-speed manual or Porsche’s seven-speed “PDK” dual-clutch automatic. Top speed is 293 km/h, while the zero-to-100 km/h run happens in just four seconds (equipped with the Sport Chrono Package and PDK transmission).

The only thing that isn’t a throwback is the price, setting you back $106,500 — some $10,000 more than the GTS 4.0 model.
