Overview

Mazda's current CX-9 crossover has long been a favorite among our staff, but the larger and more premium 2024 CX-90 three-row SUV looks poised to take the company's largest SUV even higher up the luxury mountain. The CX-90 will launch a plug-in hybrid drivetrain option alongside a new turbocharged 340-horsepower 3.3-liter inline-six. Mazda's premium aspirations lead us to believe that the top-of-the-range three-row eight-seater will offer more luxury features than the current SUV lineup. The styling is beautiful and the CX-90's cabin design takes cues from the smaller CX-50 and MX-30 SUVs. The completely new architecture on which the CX-90 is built is also expected to reveal a two-row SUV called the CX-70, which is expected to go on sale shortly after the CX-90.

The CX-90 will be a new nameplate for the Mazda brand when it enters production in 2023. It is unknown whether the CX-90 will replace the existing CX-9 in the Mazda lineup or be offered alongside three smaller models. The -row model is advancing.
