Think your tires need to be replaced? You can find out using any of these three simple tests. First, find a quarter and stick it head down into the tire tread. Rubber covering part of George’s head? Your tires are fine! If the rubber doesn’t quite reach George’s head, move on to the penny test. Stick the penny in the tire tread just like you did for the quarter. Does the rubber cover part of Abe’s head? If yes, then you’re still good! If not, it means you have less than 2/32” of tread left and it’s time to replace your tires.

There’s also the wear bar test. These little rubber indicators are 2/32” tall and are built right into the tire tread. If the bar is flush with the remaining tire rubber, it’s time to change your tires.
