Shoppers in the market for a V6-powered sedan should consider the 2018 Passat GT. Priced thousands less than a comparable V6 Toyota Camry, the GT delivers delicate German styling in a spacious, comfortable package. The 3.6-liter V6 makes 280 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, managed by a dual-clutch automatic transmission that begs to be driven aggressively.
A new Passat is on its way for the 2020 model year, but for now, the Passat still offers great rear-seat leg- and headroom. The suspension in the GT manages to stay sporty but not uncomfortable—a challenging proposition for any speedy sedan. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available within VW’s Car-Net App-Connect infotainment system on all but the base S trim, although we won’t see Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit in any 2018 Passats.
The 2018 Passat falls a touch short in terms of safety, failing to win an IIHS Top Safety Pick award. But to learn more about where the Passat succeeds, read Mike Perkins’ full review on CarGurus: https://cargur.us/pBkjt
