Glitch Tutorial for NES Maniac Mansion:
⚫ (2 Player Glitch)
Choose a 2nd player TWICE & click over the start button. You can do this for Wendy, Jeff, & Michael.
Syd might be possible.
⚫ (Skip Green Tentacle)
Click on Stairs, and choose NEW KID before the green tentacle stops you. Wait til your character is at the top of the stairs, change to a different kid, then change back. Click on the top of stairs quickly.
WARNING: Do not get captured!
⚫ (Disable Music & Fix)
Only seems to happen with the *Skip Green Tentacle Glitch*. Just turn off & on the music, or a room with a different song.
⚫ (Early 3rd Floor Softlock)
*Skip Green Tentacle Glitch* & get captured. You'll never be able to access the 3rd floor again.
⚫ (Warp Edna, Kitchen)
NEW KID as soon as Edna closes the fridge & change kids. Then switch back.
⚫ (Purple Tentacle Can't Grab You)
Stand on the stairs, and the Purple Tentacle can't grab you. Standing next to the lamp does the same thing, but you can't escape.
⚫ (Enter Dungeon)
Outside of Jail, have a character next to the door. Inside if the jail, push the loose brick & change kids. Click on the door ASAP. (Because the time is so tight, I know it's a glitch)
⚫ (Get Captured Twice)
Ring doorbell, wait for Ed to reach the front door. Then wait a bit more(maybe 15 seconds). Quickly go in & out Edna's Room. Run away from Edna a bit, and hope Ed captures you next to the stairs.
This glitch is all about timing.
⚫ (Ed is always watching)
Get CardKey & you'll get this message. Exception, if Ed is answering the doorbell.
⚫ (Get Dime or Hamster Softlock)
Get Dime (not the one in the green tentacle's room) or Hamster & you can't move or save your game. Exception, if Ed is answering the doorbell. Only way to move again, if you get caught. Like the package doorbell rings for example.
⚫ (Password Codes & Game Genie)
0000 - Inner Door Code, If you don't play the arcade

⚫ (Mysterious Keypad)
Code is completely random. You'll either need to completely guess 0-9 * #
OR open hex editor and look at the values 613F-6142.
OR edit the memory values *Password Codes & Game Genie*
⚫ (Freeze Purple Tentacle)
Call Edna or Ring Doorbell & Enter Purple Tentacle's Room before the cutscene loads. Any cutscene will stop the purple tentacle from capturing you.
⚫ (Freeze Weird Ed)
NewKid before Ed captures you, and change back. You can't touch anything still.
⚫ (Control Two Kids)
Make a character walk, NEWKid to change kids, and make another kid in the same room walk. Do it quick enough and you can make two characters walk. Useful in speedruns.
⚫ (Float on Water)
Turn on Valve, hover to NewKid. (Press start, makes timing less tight) & click on NewKid. Click on ladder ASAP before cutscene! After the cutscene ends, your character will walk, so no need to click. Turn off Valve & your character will float on water.
⚫ (Escape Dungeon during cutscene)
Only works for when Ed captures a non-controlled character. Hover to NewKid before the cutscene happens. Press Start & click on NewKid before Ed starts talking. Do it again, when Ed takes the non-controlled character to jail, and you can change kids. Choose a kid in jail & walk out.
⚫ (Microwave without Power)
If you start the microwave, it will finish even if the power goes out.
⚫ (Freeze Edna)
Enter Edna's Room, and do NEWKid to change kids. As long as you wait at least 20 seconds (might be a bit less), Edna won't try to capture you.
⚫ (Ed Ignores You)
*Freeze Weird Ed* and also ring the doorbell. This will give your character more time to grab items.
⚫ (Duplicate Hamster)
Place hamster in the microwave, turn it on, and grab it before it finishes cooking. You can now own a normal hamster & exploded hamster.
PS. You can grab any item while it's cooking, but won't do anything special.
