If you have been following this show, we started out covering a lot about 3D printing, but as the varnish faded in the media, and stocks of the more prominent 3D printer manufacturers fell back to the pre-2015 levels, you do not hear a lot about 3D printing. However, if you do follow this show, 3D printing is alive and well, just not as the media envisioned it. Frankly due to its complexity, but is that any different about any device that used for creating? 3D printers are a tool and a hobby for many, but it is manufacturing and design that has changed the most due to lower cost 3D fabrication and 3D print service bureaus.
Is this what is happening to VR? Many in the media feel that VR is declining and sales are nowhere near projections due to expensive low quality headsets and the lack of big name game developers backing it. Due to this we are seeing a number of companies like Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, HTC/Vive and VRgineers who are coming out with “pro” models priced and meant for enterprise or professional markets like design, manufacturing, AEC, medicine and VR caves for amusement purposes.
I personally feel we have a different problem and that is spoiled consumer who can make their opinions known to the world in seconds. Luckily there are some of us who are still WOWed by technology, but maybe it is just us "old timers" who had to trudge through a couple of feet of snow for miles to visit the local Radio Shack or Apple store to be amazed by the 16 fabulous colors being displayed in the glorious resolution of 320 x 240 at 30 fps on a Cathode Ray Tube . :)
