3D Printing WW2 Diorama BEF in France 1940 - Creality Ender 2
242The "phoney war" was the period between Sep 1939 and May 1940 when Britain and France were at war with Germany but not much happened. Then on 10 May 1940, Germany invaded the low countries and bypassed the supposedly impenetrable French Maginot Line. This diorama depicts the Matilda 2 tank which played a vital role in one of the rare counter attacks in the Battle of Arras where it was practically invincible against German troops and anti tank guns. They were only halted when Rommel used the 88mm flak cannons against them. Although the counter attack ended up in a retreat, it exposed the vulnerability of the German supply line, so much so that it may have been the reason why the Germans paused in their advance to drive the allies into the sea at Dunkirk. This gave the allies enough time to evacuate most of their force back to England. Most of the diorama was 3D printed with the affordable Ender 2 3D printer. Only the soldiers, power poles, footpath, sand/grass and trees were not 3D printed. Models were scaled to 1/72 or thereabouts.
