Today Chloe has joined me for a spooky version of the kitchen for some crazy Halloween party treat ideas! Ingredients & Recipes:
Bleeding Brain Cupcakes
100g self-raising flour
100g sugar
100g butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 eggs
Icing
200g softened butter
200g icing sugar
1 tbsp milk
Red food colouring
Filling
Raspberry or strawberry seedless jam
Water

This is a nice simple cupcake recipe to start with! First cream together the butter and sugar with Head Whisk (or your electric owl, I mean, mixer of choice!). Add in the eggs one at a time and continue to beat, followed by the vanilla extract. Finally add in the flour and mix gently together.

Spoon the batter into spooky cupcake cases. We could have made the batter green, but Chloe says that would not have helped at all! Bake in a 180C/160C fan/350F oven for around 20 minutes.

While they bake, mix the butter, milk and icing sugar together until you have a beautiful whipped buttercream. Now add in enough red or pink food colouring to make the icing brain coloured - here’s where it gets fun!

Let the cupcakes cool - we can’t pipe them right away as they’re going to be piping hot! Once cooled, spread a thin layer of the buttercream over the top of each, then add the rest to your piping bag. Make a line down the middle then squiggle over each side one way, then the other way until it looks sufficiently brain-like!

The final step on the journey is…some blood! Mix together the jam and a splash of blood then fill 5ml syringes with the mixture. Stab these right through the top of the cupcake, squirt to fill, and enjoy! These look pretty awesome!

Black Cheese Ghost Quesadilla

Black food colouring
Tortillas

Grate the cheese and mix it with a good squidge of black food colouring, it doesn’t need to be fully coated because it’ll blend as it melts.

Now use a piece of A4 paper to cut out a template of a ghost and cut the tortillas out in this shape. If you take your time with this, it’ll come out pretty darn awesome!

Put one tortilla down in the pan, sprinkle the cheese all over. Cut eye holes and a mouth out of the top tortilla then place it down on top of the cheese. Melt it up in the pan, let it brown on one side then flip over and brown the other side too. These look very cool and taste good too!

Leftover buttercream from cupcakes (or see above for the recipe)

This is a good simple one for kids! Chop the pretzel sticks into spider leg sized pieces, then stick them into the cream in the Oreo. Use a bit of buttercream to stick the edible eyes on, and there you go!

While they’re baking, mix up some buttercream (use the recipe above from the cupcakes again) with some red food dye, get this one really bright red and vibrant!

Spread half of the underside of each cookie with the buttercream, spilling over at the front. Layer up the marshmallows as teeth and the almonds as fangs! These look awesome and are really good too!
