I alway wante to play 40 Winks on the PS1/N64, but I never got around to it. The other day, I was browsing the Steam Store, and saw 40 winks on sale for cheap, so I picked it up. So far, I like this game. It is definitely a unique platformer, but it may not appeal to ever 3D platform gaming fan out there.

This is a solid product of the early 3D era of gaming. The biggest complaint most will have with it is, even when playing with an Xbox controller, there is no analog controller support. This is a d-pad playing 3D game which doesn't bother me, because I never had a dualshock during the PS1's life cycle, so using the d-pad is old hat for me. The controls are also a bit weird on the Xbox controller. the right bumper makes the camera move in one direction, but to move it in the other direction, I discovered that you have to press in the right analog stick. So for the Steam version, they didn't optimize it for modern controllers. Once you get the hang of it, it's not a big deal.

Also, I don't know if you can save anywhere. I keep forgetting to check when I bring up the options menu. The memory card save works, but I will have to double check the next time I play it if I can save anywhere.

Some minor issues aside, I like this game so far. Cool concept, and by PS1 standards, good graphics, and solid design. I look forward to playing more of this game in the future.
