First playthrough of the formerly console-exclusive Doom. I'm still trying to figure otu if I like it as much as Doom 1 and 2, but it's pretyt damned close. It's got that fast, addictive arcade-y gameplay and some cool new graphics.
So far, the difficulty is quite reasonable (playing on difficulty 3 out of 4, "I Own Doom," which I do). We breeze through the early levels but get slowed up by the first boss-ish levle, Even Simpler (a take-off on Doom 2's "Dead Simple"). If I'd noticed certain items teleporting in (and remembered that items CAN teleport in in this game), I would have beaten it sooner, but I bet with a little more practice, I could make it through Even Simpler starting with just the pistol.
Some folks in chat really know Doom 64 inside and out, which is neat. We learn about old unofficial fan-made PC versions--I played a bit of one myself in the mid 2000s. It's hard to believe that the stream ended up being 6 hours, but you know how it is when you're playing a classic Doom game! Even Regent SwagDuck has a few thoughts on it.
