420: Dear, Dear, GRAY Can the MATTER Be? (day 1)
This adventure game is off to a fun start! When American travelling magician Sam Everett's motorcycle breaks down in Britain, not far from Oxford, she happens upon Dread Hill Manor. Because all big houses in England have names like that! A newly-arrived young woman appears to be spirtied away by a mysterious shadowy figure, so Sam takes her place, posing as the new assistant to neurobiologist Dr. Sykes, It turns out,t his could be a rather sweet gig, but Sykes has left a test for Sam: recruit university students to experiment in a little . . . experiment. And Sykes seems to have a reputation around Oxford. Fortunately, in a clever puzzle mechanic, Sam has her magic tricks to help her be pursuasive. She also really wants to be part of the secret Deadalus Club for magicians, and local magic shop owner Mephistopheles nudges Sam onto a path that may just lead her there.
On top of being wel-made and polished (although chat argues that some of the in-game graphics could be of a better style), this game has good voice acting and some cool accessibility features, like letting you zoom in to see text sometimes. We haven't gotten to anything really creepy yet, but I think this is going to be a good one. Meanwhile, we'll continue to debate whether it is advisable to pick rabbits up by the ears.
