The AA mod i am using here is aliasIsolation \ Alias Isolation brings a few more improvements to Temporal Anti-Aliasing. There's a small GPU cost increase due to a more complex shader, but objects in motion will now suffer from considerably less stair-stepping artifacts.

Overview

Alias Isolation is a mod for Alien: Isolation. It adds temporal anti-aliasing into the shipped game, and fixes a few small issues with the rendering.

The mod works by injecting itself into the executable, and hijacking D3D11 calls. It replaces a few shaders, and injects some of its own rendering.

Usage

Save the mod files in a non-system directory. It could be "Program Files", or "My Documents", or anything else as long as no special permissions are required to access that direcotry. If you're using a pre-packaged release, please unzip it rather than launching the mod from within the zip.

Run "aliasIsolationInjectorGui.exe", and follow the displayed instructions. Once you press the "Launch Alien: Isolation" button, the mod launches Alien: Isolation and hooks into it. Exiting the app will remove the mod from the Alien. If the game is a Steam copy, the mod will inject itself into it Steam well, and then launch the game.

Injection into Steam is necessary, as it is actually the Steam.exe process which launches the game. Even if AI.exe is started directly, it communicates with Steam, and then exits immediately, allowing Steam to launch it. In order to hook into the game, Alias Isolation hooks into Steam, and intercepts its CreateProcessW call, subsequently injecting itself into the child process. The only binaries that are injected into are Steam.exe and AI.exe.

In order to remove the hook from Steam, run "detachAll.cmd".

Video Settings

Anti-aliasing must be set to SMAA T1x. Chromatic Aberration must be disabled. Motion blur must be enabled.

Runtime toggle

To disable the mod at runtime, hit "Ctrl+Delete". To re-enable it, hit "Ctrl+Insert".

Known issues

* No support for the unofficial Rift mode. * Crashes when used with recent versions of ReShade. * RenderDoc, or any other software which also uses API hooking may break the rendering. * SLI/CrossFire performance will probably be badly impacted, and depending on what the driver does, might also suffer from glitchy rendering. * Some special effects can appear thinner or exhibit ghosting. Sparks are known to be eroded.

Alien: Isolation is a single-player action-adventure game with emphasis on stealth and survival horror features. The player controls Amanda Ripley from a first-person perspective, and must explore a space station and complete objectives while avoiding, outsmarting and defeating enemies. Objectives range from activating computers to collecting certain items or reaching a specific area in the game. The player can run, climb ladders, sneak into vents, crouch behind objects to break the line of sight with enemies, and peek over or lean around to gain view. The player also has the ability to go under tables or inside lockers to hide from enemies.Amanda encounters several antagonists over the course of the game, including hostile humans and androids. These can be defeated with gunplay or other offensive means. The main antagonist, an Alien creature, pursues the player throughout the game. The Alien creature cannot be defeated, requiring the player to use stealth tactics in order to survive. Instead of following a predetermined path, the Alien has the ability to actively investigate disturbances and hunt the player by sight or sound. Along the way, the player can use both a flashlight and a motion tracker to detect the Alien's movements. However, using any of these increases the chance of the Alien finding the player. For example, if the Alien is moving and close enough, the tracker's sound will attract the Alien, forcing the player to use the tracker wisely and remove it as soon as it detects motion. The motion tracker cannot detect enemies when they are not moving and cannot determine if the alien creature is up in the ducts or on ground level.Although Amanda gains access to a revolver, a shotgun, a bolt gun, and a flamethrower over the course of the game, Alien: Isolation emphasises evasion over direct combat by providing limited ammunition. The player can also craft items by collecting schematics and different materials. Items include EMP, noisemakers, molotov cocktails, and pipe bombs; these can help the player deal with enemies.
