5 Complicated Things About Minecraft To Keep In Mind (For Beginners)
Minecraft is a game full of passion, and there's a lot of that passion that goes unnoticed. Here are some things I've learned over my years of playing Minecraft. some are technical things, some are mechanics, and maybe a bonus at the end.
This is my first full on edited, and scripted out video, so let me know what you think.
*may not be perfectly correct explanations, the wiki is the best place for information, this is a video mainly for beginners, with mainly layman terms*

While you play Minecraft, there's some things to keep in mind. From technical aspects, to hidden mechanics, Minecraft is a game with many years under it's wing, and with a second generation coming in to play, we should always remember how complicated, and wacky this game can be. Watch until the end for a bonus easter egg. Here are 5 things I always think are cool to thing about this "simple kids block game".
1. Saturation
Minecraft has a hidden hunger stat called saturation. You may have heard of it, but if you're not sure what it does,it's basically how "full" the food made you.Think of it like how in real life natural food gives you more energy for your body to use, than say fast-food, or candy, which gives you a quick burst of energy, but doesnt last.If you see your health recovering fast, that's from saturation. Each item you can eat has a saturation level, and doesn't stack. You can tell when you have no more saturation when your hunger bars start jittering. The best item to eat for saturation, other than suspicious stew, is the golden carrot, with a saturation of 14.4, so your gold has another good use.
2. Finding Treasure Chests Easily
You may remember the vanilla x-ray in Minecraft, but did you know that it also works for fully covered treasure chests. As it turns out, chests aren't full sized blocks,so there's always an "air" pocket around them,so Minecraft renders the chest faces for you to see.Same idea applies when you find dungeons, and why you can see water, and lava as well.
3. Main Optimization
Minecraft determines which sides of blocks to render, by seeing which ones are at open space. This is to keep performance high.To keep it simple, Minecraft only displays the surface sides of blocks,to keep the total number of faces, and verts. So every side of a block is a face, and if you think about it,it's a maximum of 300% better performance for a block with 1 surface face. When it comes to game development, every millisecond of rendering time matters. To hit 60 fps, the whole frame of the game has to run, and render within 16.7 milliseconds every frame.I think this is the main thing contributing to Minecraft's good performance. Each Minecraft chunk can hold a total of 16x16x256 blocks, which is 65,536 total. With a head-canon average of around a Y of 65 for surface layer, or 1/4 the total. That comes out to 16,384 blocks, and rendering each of those blocks, with all of their faces,at all times, would tank performance hard.Without this one optimization, Minecraft would be unplayable.
4. Local Difficulty
Minecraft has a mostly hidden mechanic where the longer a player has a chunk loaded, the harder some things get. This is cumulative, so the more players have the chunk loaded, the faster the local difficulty of that chunk raises. It uses math based on the game difficulty, current chunk difficulty, total chunk daylight time, and unexpectedly, the moon phase.Different game difficulties have different local difficulty ranges.Regional Difficulty effects things like phantom spawns, zombie brun spread chance, and duration, husk hunger hit effect duration, if illusioners will cast blindness, skeleton trap spawn chance, and if skeletons will fire flaming arrows.
5. Debug World
If you make resource packs or mods for Minecraft, you've probably already seen this, but did you know Minecraft has a debug world that consists only of a grid of every block,in every block state. This is useful to see any (mainly visual) errors, or issues with any of the blocks. The world is set to automatically setup a spot for any new registered block IDs that are added.Because of this, it's useful to the creators of resource packs, and mods,as well as the Mojang devs themselves. You aren't allowed to place any blocks in this world, and any commands that would set any, like, fill, or setblock, don't work.
6.Vindicator Johnny
You may have seen name tag tricks before, like Dinnerbone to turn them upside down,
or jeb_ to make a rainbow sheep, but did you know that the Minecraft devs are fans of The Shining.
If you name a vindicator "Johnny" ,it will become hostile to all mobs, except other illagers, and ghasts.
