5 Ridiculous Passwords in the Original Metroid (NES) - Retrogaming Easter Eggs #shorts
Here are five ridiculous passwords for the original Metroid on NES. Although it can be argued that MOST passwords in this game are ridiculous, since you usually have to enter 24 seemingly random characters, and often it will take you about 15 minutes to get your password right since it's so easy to make mistakes... BUT LET'S DIGRESS.
000000 000020
000000 000020
This passwords lets you start the game like normal, except Samus will be in some kind of space leotard (some people call it a swimsuit) rather than her Power Suit.
JUSTIN BAILEY
______ ______
This password starts Samus in Norfair with both Ridley and Kraid defeated. You basically have everything, and Samus will be in her space leotard. You'll have the Wave Beam instead of the Ice Beam, and all that's left is to go beat the game. And you'll probably want to grab the Ice Beam for that, idk...
Despite rumors about a programmer named Justin Bailey, or the phrase "Just in bailey" referring to an old-timey expression for a bathing suit, this password actually has no hidden meaning or reason. It's just a password that happens to work out while sounding like a person's name or something.
CONTIN UE_MY_
GAMEMI NIBOSS
This password starts you with an odd assortment of upgrades. For example you'll have the Wave Beam but not the Long Beam. You will also have 199 missiles to start and you'll be able to enter Tourian. This password also features Samus in her swimsuit thingy.
NARPAS SWORD0
000000 000000
This password was apparently hard coded into the game. This one gives Samus infinite missiles (despite not showing your missile ammunition total on screen) and her energy cannot fall below 30. Plus, she will have all the upgrades - including a beam weapon that cannot be found anywhere in the game. It operates much like the Ice Beam but looks chunkier. Kind of like how it is in Metroid II: Return of Samus.
Some people think this password can be interpreted as North American Release Password, and its purpose was to allow developers to test certain features. Others seem to think the NAR is just part of Toru Narihiro's name, since he developed the password system for Metroid. Some people think it means "Not A Real Password," or even something relating to NARPA'S SWORD. Probably not that last one, but it would be dope if Samus got a sword.
ENGAGE RIDLEY
MOTHER F****R
I am censoring this for the children and for the algorithm, but I bet you can figure it out. This password will often crash your game or cause it to restart because this code places Samus at an invalid location and calculates a playing time of approximately 314.5 years. The game hasn't quite been out that long.
