To say that Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is the pinnacle of gaming is by no means accurate. There were questionable decisions made with the story and some thematic directions of the final chapter of the mainline Metal Gear Solid saga that definitely still leave the long-time fans on a bit of a sour note. That, coupled with radical gameplay changes from the previous several games as well as some odd holes in the base experience created by mysteriously cut content, make Metal Gear Solid 5 a bit of a mixed bag overall.

But given the love and care with which these and other mods have been crafted, as well as the potential for an episode 51 after all this time, the PC version of the game certainly has an appeal that few other open world games even come close to matching today. From customizing your own side ops for others to play, editing the hell out of your mother base, and even bringing content from other games into the Metal Gear Solid 5 world, there is certainly no shortage of things to do in The Phantom Pain now and that doesn’t appear to be changing anytime soon. With the modding community being what it is today, and many of the finer members of it being laser-focused on MGS5, odds are we’re in for many more years of hell-raising fun in the landscapes of Afghanistan and Africa and wherever else the modding community takes us within the game.
