1) After you go to the Lodge go find the recruiter for the Vanguard. You’ll be signing up for service. But before you join he will grant you access to a museum that will explain why we are no longer on earth, what happened, and who the factions are. It’s like a crash course in the lore.
2) Most of those cool things you saw them do in the trailers such as fly around on jump backs or target enemy ships and destroy their engines are locked behind skills. If you don’t have them, you won’t be able to do them. So the first thing you should do is make sure you unlock Boost Packing and Targeting. If you focus more on space, get Targeting first, if you focus more on planet exploration get jetpack first, but regardless of which on you get first you will probably want to get the other one second.
3) As you earn skill points don’t be in a hurry to spend them. There will be times where you are presented with a challenge and you’ll need a skill to overcome it. This is why you should spend that skill point on a talent that you need. If you spend all your points as soon as you get them you could be stuck. I’m not suggesting you hoard all your points but it wouldn’t hurt to keep one or two of them available in your back pocket.
4) As you unlock skills you have to use that skill to achieve the next rank. You can’t just dump points into it and max it out.
5) You won’t be able to do everything at once, but there is no level cap. If you play the game long enough you could potentially get every skill. The motivation to play another character or the NG+ is because some of your choices in regards to the factions can prevent you from doing things with opposing factions. So you won’t be able to do everything in a single playthrough.
6) There are easter eggs hidden all throughout the settled systems. Don’t be afraid to head over that next horizon. You just might be surprised with what you find.
