65 - LIVE! Shiny Kecleon on Emerald after 29,979 RAs! (+GameCube Showcase)
44Hey, on the 2nd of April 2022 I've finally found my shiny Kecleon on Emerald after around 500 hours of hunting. I started this hunt on a whim back in January 2021 after finding my shiny Ditto on the exact same game after 352 encounters. Didn't think Emerald would get back at me so hard but the patience was definitely worth it considering how good this shiny is!
Went for it on Emerald because I liked the mecanics behind the hunt and was also curious about how the animation and the sparkles would look if they overlapped, which you can see at the very end of the video.
To hunt Kecleon in this game, you need a Pokémon with Self-Destruct (or another self-KOing move) because simply running away will cause the Pokémon to disappear. By encountering it, blacking out and being teleported back to the Pokémon Center, you can effectively hunt it. Casually hunting this, I was able to get around 60 to 70 encounters an hour.
Little disclaimers: my reaction is really loud so volume warning and my mic had some issues during the XD showcase so sorry about that.
This hunt has been a real adventure that simply started by a wonder while I was playing through Emerald to set up Ditto, would it be possible to hunt a Kecleon like this? I shared my thoughts in miketroid34's chat and Kazzouli tried it out for me, confirming the Kecleon was still there after blacking out.
I wasn't going to hunt it before a while but as Ditto shined really fast, I decided to set up Kecleon without thinking too much about it. I clearly didn't think this hunt would stick with me that long and eventually become my longest hunt in terms of time invested, which is insane. It lasted for so long that I, once again, got Pokérus before getting my shiny. Parodoxal when you know that at first I wanted to hunt the Kecleon you encounter during the story but didn't go for it because I didn't want the hunt to last too long lol.
I can't express how happy I am to have finally found it, not only was it a hunt I loved and I was really looking forward to seeing this Pokémon shine, but it also was preventing me to set up other hunts I had planned, which isn't the case anymore.
As for my mom, I bought her an orchid (she loves these flowers) and apologised when she woke up. She then told me she had heard absolutely nothing (fortunately) lmao. So I guess it's just another funny little story behind this shiny.
