As a huge fan of Doom 3, I was delighted that it got a quality expansion ! Taking place 2 years after the events of the main game, ROE brings some closing, as the villain Betruger, who has turned into a huge dragon-like demon, is dealt with once and for all in an epic final boss fight !

So what does ROE bring to the table that's new ? Quite a few things actually ! First of all, there are two new kick ass weapons ; the insanely powerful double barrel 'super shotgun', that annihilates most enemies in one blast, and the 'grabber' which enables you to lift and throw objects (like the gravity gun in Half Life 2). The artifact, a weapon that looks like a heart can slow down time, however it makes the game too easy, so I never use it !

Concerning the enemies, the main new demon is the Vulgar, which replaces the Imp as the most frequent foe. Compared to the Imps they are faster and more deadly, making the game harder (as long as you don't use the artifact!). The Bruiser is a weird new enemy, with a TV in place of its mouth and looks like a monster straight out of Silent Hill ! He is the most brutal demon in the game ! Finally, there are the Hell Hunters, flame heads that fly at speed towards you and can cause panic, specially when attacking in packs !

While ROE doesn't have the same intense atmosphere as the main game, and is about half as long, anyone who enjoyed Doom 3 will love this expansion too, I definitely do !

09/03/25 : Until recent updates sound issues made it unplayable, there were also some glitches in certain lighting effects, but now these issues have been fixed and the game works perfectly !
