This video is a good example of why it's so very important to test things out in your game, or at the very least give a proper showcasing of the game's elements early on. In hindsight it's not the worst design to make the first floor a mad dash to the stairs, but consider that most players (and especially those who play roguelikes) are of the impression that it's at least hypothetically possible to clear a floor. Let's take a look at the first floor from a beginner's perspective: weak healing items, tons of powerful enemies, AI that is ironically annoying, and a huge labyrinth to navigate. It's only after you get past that do you realize that the game has plenty else to offer, and many of the oddities actually make the game interesting.
It's just something to watch out for. I was awfully close to stopping because of a really bad game hook, but instead I kinda like it and would consider playing some more.
