80's Overdrive - Ryujinx Emulator
I've always hoped that some of the Sega AGES titles on the Switch would come to the PS4, but seeing as that looks like it's never going to happen I decided to give Nintendo Switch emulation a try. As I'd got it setup, I thought I might as well give another racing title I'd been eyeing up on the Switch a try too, 80's Overdrive (and once again I can see no good reason why this has stayed as a Switch exclusive. Edited: Been informed by several people in the comments it's also out on Steam too)
I haven't played enough of it yet to form a solid opinion (this was literally just a quick go before bedtime) but I love the graphics and the music. The way they've done the retro 3D look is great and this stage in particular is incredibly reminiscent of Outrun. I'm actually preferring the more traditional super-scaler 2D look of this to some of the other semi-retro racers out at the moment, like Horizon Chase and Drift Stage, where you tell a bit more obviously there's a 3D polygon game engine at work underneath the 2D graphics.
I love as well that there are vehicles in this that are easily recognisable homages to 80's Super cars, like the Lamborghini Countach. The pace feels a bit sedate, but I believe you can unlock a nitro boost later and also as you unlock more vehicles the performance improves.
Not sold on the gameplay yet. Steering feels a tad oversensitive and the NPC cars seem to have a rather annoying habit of veering across the screen into you.
Ryujink was very easy to setup and a bit of simple Googling found some games easily. Again, shame this was kept as a switch exclusive. I'd have happily snapped it up on PS4 for a couple of quid.
