#91 Virtua Fighter 5 PS3 \\ Pai Chan enters VF5 Quest Mode! Type C costume unlocked!
Starting Pai Chan in Quest Mode of Virtua Fighter 5 on PS3!
3:32 - checking her two starting costumes
6:20 - off to beginner arcade Sega Arena Coast
6:59 - in retrospect, challenging BludLust was a bad idea : P
7:56 - skimming parts of her move list--she can throw crouching characters! usually only grapplers can do that : o Also she's got a ton of reversals which I must never try to do because I will get owned. And a couple stances! (The main one is just her back-turned position, which you can get into generally by pressing back with kick/punch buttons; she's got a lot of combos out of it.
35:37 - oh gee BludLust is back again ; P
48:56 - Beginner's Try tournament
57:51 - fighting in beginner/intermediate arcade Club Sega Downtown
1:46:37 - 1st dan rank! Type C costume unlocked!
1:48:22 - Club Sega Bay Area (novice to advanced) tournament
I had a slow start with Pai in Virtua Fighter 4 -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6ZM649oAiE -- and it kind of went that way in VF5 as well. After a bit though I did realize at least one thing, which is that my idea that she was faster than everyone and could thus just jab herself out of trouble was totally wrong. : P
I like her animations more here than in 4--there's less sort of rubber-bandy springing forward and then back in the same move, except her forward+P still has some of that. That f+P is the main thing about her that bugs me here, I think, because you can't do more punches to follow it up, so it's kind of a dead-end. You can at least do a kick to continue it, but that isn't something I'm used to having to do, so it may take a while (read: never) to be able to use that effectively in a fight. : P
In retrospect I've started to learn a lot of her cool combos--some I managed to do here in my thrashing around--start off with back motions on the stick, rather than forward. I guess that's supposed to be part of her style, really, and probably why f+P kind of dead-ends.
I love her neutral G+P throw animation (ex: 1:43:33)! It was good in 4, but here it's even...gooder... So smooth and seamless from her neutral stance. And they bungle it up in 5 Final Showdown! But more on that when we come to it. :P
One handy move that I didn't know in this session is her down+back+K,K, which does a low kick (or is it a sweep, I forget), then a high kick going forward. The AI has a real problem seeing that coming!
It might have saved me from crashing out of multiple tournaments. ;_; Still I started to put some things together eventually (after running away from that pesky, weirdly persistent ninja BludLust in the newbie arcade, and going to the beginner/intermediate Downtown arcade) and managed to get a big win streak going in the end, so that made me feel better about playing Pai. And I got to 1st dan rank to unlock her Type C costume! Which I don't particularly like, so I guess I'll stick with Type B until I fill up the orb tray to get Type D, which--if it's like it is in FS--I think I'll like a bit better.
