They have a long rivalry with Liverpool whose ground is nearby each family play this is known as the Merseyside derby. Everton and Liverpool actually share the stadium until Goodison Park was built in the 1890s.
Everton FC is located in the north of Liverpool the home ground is Goodison Park And has been since 1892. The stadium was one of the first purpose-built football stadiums in the whole world, with stands and turnstiles. The club are planning To build a new stadium at Bramley Moore dock in the next few years.
The first period of success came in 1925. they signed Dixie Dean and 2 years later he scored 60 goals in 39 matches setting a new world record and taking Everton to another League title. only 3 years later they were relegated to the Second division. This would be that last season in the second division up to the current date as they remained in the top flight ever since.
Another period of success came in 1961 when Harry Catterick was appointed manager with Catterick in charge Everton win 2 league titles and 4 cups in 9 years. this period of success didn't last much longer has Catterick quit his job after 3 years of low League finishes. the club spent most of the 70s around mid table until they appointed Howard Kendall in 1981.
Howard Kendall was the most successful manager in Everton's history he went to league titles and three cups between 1981 and 1987 Everton also won the cup winners' Cup in 1985 including 3-1 win against Bayern Munich in the semi-final and then a 3-1 win against rapid Vienna in the final.
This was to be English teams last European match until 1991 because of the heysel disaster in 1985 English teams were banned from playing in Europe. this ended up causing a redistribution of Talent in the UK as a few teams such as Nottingham Forest, Ipswich, Aston Villa and Everton all missed out on European football and couldn't compete with bigger fan bases such as Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle.
Scottish manager David Moyes took over in 2002 after a couple of decades of average performances. Moyes took Everton up the table and they regularly were finishing in the top 10 again. they managed to finish fourth in 2004, which was the highest ever premier league position. during his reign youth player Wayne Rooney was brought into the first team and sold for a club record 28 million pounds.
at the end of the 2012-13 season Moyes left for Manchester United after a string of poor managers, they are now managed by Carlo Ancelotti Who has made a number of big-name signing such as James Rodriguez, Allan and doucore.
