After our brief foray into the present day with Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, Greg and I gotta get back, back to the past, with Super Double Dragon!
We played this fourth entry in the Double Dragon series briefly before Gaiden came out, and it left us with positive impressions. Will it hold up under closer scrutiny?
In the end, we're pretty much in agreement: this is a really fun game that did a great job of expanding Double Dragon's traditional control scheme to take advantage of the SNES controller, but a lack of development time (not our guess: this is corroborated by the director of the game!) resulted in a flawed gem. With a bit more time, this could've been an all-timer! As it is... hey, it's way better than Battletoads in Battlemaniacs!
Next up: The Combatribes, the 1990 arcade game that Technos' main development team focused on instead of making Double Dragon III themselves! Was their interest in this new property justified? Will it live up to its ridiculous portmanteau title? Find out next time!
