A Critical Thought on ELO Rating Systems
Today's Critical Thought looks at the use and practicality of ELO rating systems in video games. For information on the formulas, you can find it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
An ELO rating system is important for competitive-based titles to provide stability and an abstracted measurement of player skill. If you want your game to remain viable for both casual and core gamers, you need to look into having an ELO system.
This is also why plenty of players can get salty when they're playing games with an ELO system, but it's necessary for the stability of the game.
